As part of our effort in improving the standard of education given at public schools in Nuwakot, we continuously work with the schools themselves to address their needs and wants so that the quality and guidance they offer students can be good and useful. Of our main priority as an NGO, Parcel of Peace working in Nepal is to ensure to the extent of our reach that the children for whom we work receive a quality of education and understanding that empowers them to ensure their life is bright and opportune, that their future is not wasted.
The key to this future is Education of great quality. This requires many things on our part. The truth of working in remote, impoverished areas is that the children do not always have parents to motivate them to study. As often is the case they need help in the farm, and schooling can often take a secondary place. Another hard truth is that most of the children in the areas where we work are largely from families who mainly do farming and the earnings means the parents do not have enough income to partially or fully fund the necessities of their children’s schooling. This includes everything a child would need- from school uniforms to the books and stationary and other utilities.
This is where Parcel of Peace and its partner agencies have committed our efforts. First, to ensure the parents are not at an economic loss by sending their kids to school, we subsidize their costs by providing the children, numbering at around 1200 annually, the things that their parents would have had to spend on- from school uniforms, sweaters, socks, shoes, sandals and school bags. This at minimum ensures the child stays in school and still has a chance of getting the education that they need.
